Groceries

Savings
Here are two examples of the savings you can look forward to. In the first instance, the total was lowered from $92.35 to $33.98. In the second case, the total was lowered from $68.83 to $22.01.
In order to enjoy these savings, the following fees had to be spent.
Newspaper subscription: $2 per month. Grocery game: $5 per month. Two Entertainment books: $4.75 per month. Total expenditure: $11.75 per month.
The amount that would have been spent on groceries without relying on coupons and the Grocery Game is $161.18. Accounting for the $11.75 expense described above, the savings equal $93.44. The percentage saved is 58%.

Double Coupons
To maximize your savings, you will have to do all your grocery shopping at stores that double your coupons.

Newspaper
You will need a local Sunday newspaper that carries the coupons you will require.

The grocery game
To facilitate truly maximizing your grocery savings, subscribing to the Grocery Game is essential. It is published online every Saturday. This service monitors the weekly specials various grocery stores are running. Furthermore, the Game keeps track of coupons that are published in the Sunday papers. It will let you know which coupons to use and for which week. The Grocery Game will list items you should purchase in the three categories listed below.

Categories
Category 1: the groceries you must get, since they are free. Once the cashier scans your coupon, these will cost you $0!
Category 2: items you should strongly consider. Combining coupons with these rebates will reduce the price by 50 to 90%.
Category 3: the items you should get only if you really need them. These will be reduced by less than 50%.

There is in fact a fourth category. It is comprised of foods that are neither on sale, nor has any coupon been issued for them. Try to keep the items in this category to a bare minimum. One way to do so is called stockpiling. Stockpiling means purchasing tons of a particular non-perishable item while it is in category 1 or 2. This will help prevent you from having to buy it later on at the full retail price.

Limitations
The Grocery Game only takes into account coupons printed in the local Sunday newspaper.

Coupons on the web
You can print coupons from certain manufacturers’ websites.

Other sources of coupons
Other coupons will come to your house for free and without even having to ask for them. Grocers’ weekly flyers contain coupons that cannot be found in the newspaper’s flyers.
The newspaper, itself (not the flyers placed within it), can also be filled with coupons.
Grocers will often display a full-page advertisement in the first few pages of the paper.
Look for coupons on that page.
In some grocery stores, the cashier will hand over to you a few coupons along with your receipt. You can use these during your next grocery shopping trip. These coupons will not be doubled and the Grocery Game does not take them into account.

Entertainment book
The Entertainment Book is also a very valuable source of extra coupons. You can check if it is available in your area at entertainment.com.
If so, you can also order an Entertainment book from that website.
The coupon section entitled Retail and Services is where you will find twelve five-dollar coupons, which can be redeemed at a specific grocery store. One coupon for each month of the year.
